The masthead
I was wondering if my masthead should be contents or the name of my magazine (Aurora). Then I researched into Vogue magazine's contents page and the majority had Vogue in it so I decided to put Aurora as the masthead even for my contents page.
fonts

This is one of my favourite font since it looks really royal and girly, however my magazine needs a font which is more bold not something which is simple and cursive.

This font seemed rather different and interesting, however, I think that this will be better for a music magazine than a fashion magazine. Also, the theme of my magazine is formal and this doesn't fit into that role.

This font has a unique style towards it. It shows boldness as well as high end fashion. It also symbolises feminism and since women are my target audience, I thought that this font is a necessity for my magazine so this is my final selection.
costumes
I wasn't really sure about what costumes to use. My main article in my double page spread is going to be about international collection of costumes so my image options are 2 models wearing indian outfits and the other 2 models wearing western outfits. However, later after selecting my main image, the costume for the model turned out to be western clothing (gold shorts with a matching belt and a crop top which flows at the back), also the jewellery (bracelets and necklace) suits the gold attire.
SELECTING The main image for my contents page
Image 1: The model in this picture is Veena, she is just a student but she is very much interested in participating in fashion shows and this is a picture that was taken in Chennai when there was a fashion show done by a brand called Kay.
Image 2: Again there was another fashion show happening in Chennai with professional models and this was a picture taken there. However, the quality of this picture is not so clear (resolution is low).
Image 3: This is a picture of my friend Preetha. This is not an originally taken picture. I asked my friend to send me a good clarity fashionable picture and she sent me this, however I dont want to use this since it's very ethnic which may not suit my own magazine.
Image 4: The model's name is Rheana and she is one of my best friend. Previously in my cover page progression, I posted a few pictures that were taken in a birthday party an this is also an image which was taken at the same time. The original picture had a different background but I cropped it out using photoshop therefore it looks plain white.

My selection
![Picture](/uploads/9/9/7/3/99733420/editor/cybp1493.jpg?250)
This image was my first selection since I wanted a really bright image which will stand out and attract the reader's eyes. This image also has a really good clarity/quality which forces me to pick it. Another reason I picked this image was because of the model's position since contents page usually has models in a slanting position. It is not necessary for models in the contents page to have a direct eye contact with the audience, however I thought that she has a powerful look in her eyes which complimented her smile so this will immediately engage the reader. Her hairstyle, outfit, makeup everything seems to be in place which will suit the genre of my magazine.

I was a bit confused about choosing the angle for my magazine. Normally for a well known magazine, the editors will consider many factors before inserting an image example: angle. Some people look better from the right/left side in a picture so I wanted to make sure which angle is better for this model so I clubbed the two angles together and aimed to decide which one is the best option.
Later, when I uploaded this picture into indesign and when I enlarged it, the quality of the image was disappointing. Normally professional magazines have amazing quality pictures and I wanted to have the same for my magazine so I ignored this picture and decided to choose another one instead.
fINAL SELECTION
Finally I selected :
I choose this because I think that it gives a very powerful and fashionable look. Also, the body posture and the the side angle the model is looking makes it seem professional and this image's length would perfectly fit in a large amount of the contents page since the main image in contents page always seems to be really big.

background
This are a few examples of various contents page and one common factor is that they all have a white background so I took this as an inspiration and made my contents page background white after a few stages.

White is totally reflective, awakening openness, growth and creativity. You can't hide behind it as it amplifies everything in its way.
Positive ideologies: Cleanliness, safety and coolness and light
Negative ideologies: Dominant, neutral, gloomy.

The colour scheme is going to be white, black and orange. The white is going to be in the background while the black and orange are colours of the contents page. (I used the eye dropper tool to choose the orange colour from the model's outfit). By doing research, I could see that not a lot of high end fashion magazines are colourful so I used a few dull colours.
pLANNING THE LAYOUT
This is just a simple layout for my contents page which was done in Microsoft Powerpoint. Definitely my finished product will not look like this since this is just a very brief intro to the beginning stage of my contents page.
The beginning stage...
This is when I started to do the contents page. This stage is when I first cropped the main image using the Polygon Lasso Tool in
photoshop. This was just a brief cropping since I thought I can make the rest of the perfect editing later on...

Inserting the title and the background
Over here, I inserted the title as "Contents" and the font is Bodoni as referred to before and the colour is dark blue. The background is white and I have attached the image to the left hand side of the page. I really think that this font goes really well with the picture so I decided to continue.
changes to the background and title
So here I decided to change the title to Aurora. After researching into fashion magazines especially VOGUE, I came to know that most contents page has the name of the magazine so in my contents page, I changed the masthead from contents to Aurora. And then I changed the background to a gradient colour of grey to black. Also, I added a text called "Contents" and added the month and the year (February 2017) on top of the title.
Changes to background again.
Again I researched into other magazine contents page and mostly the background is of light colours so from the gradient background I changed it to plain white background. The title colour was then changed to black to make it contrasting with the background.
adding a Frame
I tried inserting a frame for my contents page but after doing it, I felt that it didn't look like a professional high level magazine so later I removed it. But in this stage, I also inserted a few sub headings for my texts.
The layout
Finally I came to decide on the layout of my contents page with the model on the right hand side of the page and the coverlines on the left hand side. I also inserted a few black strips on the page to add a new look to it and I think it suited the overall layout very well.

Adding the texts
In this stage I started writing my texts and I decided to write about Fashion, Gossip and Special features. I also added a subscribe option at the right hand bottom corner of the page since I see it in lots of Vogue magazines as it's a way of promoting the magazine.
Acting according to the colour scheme
Like i mentioned earlier, my colour scheme is black, white and orange so in my cover lines, the subscription and the date, I added a tint of orange for which I used the eyedropper to take the colour from the outfit, for the rest of the text the colour is black.
reorganising
In this stage, I just moved a few texts around to see where it perfectly fits because I think a page should never be messy because if it is then the reader would be distracted while reading a particular thing. I also deleted the phrase "Get to know the real life of Aurora models" since I thought it's not a necessity for my magazine.
Final changes
At last, I added a few more texts below the sub heading to emphasise that this magazine is really informative and contains a lot of contents throughout.
