The people I sent the questionnaires to were my target audience (women aged 25+) so that I would get a reliable result to do the best for my own magazine. The first question I aimed to find out was a perfect name for my magazine as I was finding it hard deciding which one to pick. I had three options: Aurora, Fashionology and The official. About 6 out of 10 (the majority) picked the name Aurora, therefore I decided to go with it.
The second question I asked them is if they read women’s monthly lifestyle and fashion magazine and about 8 out of 10 people said yes which makes them my perfect target audience since my magazine features mainly about fashion. About half of them said that their income is $2000 to $5000 and the other half said their income is $5000 and above. My target audiences are the well-settled people with high education and high income, therefore the people I asked these questions fit into that role.
I wanted to know why women want to buy fashion magazines and what is their purpose and I figured out that 5 of them read it for fashion information, 3 for tips on dress and make up and 2 just for leisure. Because of this, I created a magazine issue, which features different kinds of globalized fashion as well as the latest trends and tips. I also asked them “Do you feel that there is enough variety between the content in women’s magazine currently available on the market?” and 7 out of 10 said that yes there is and 3 said no there isn’t, so I want to make sure my magazine doesn’t just focus on one factor but instead it focuses on various factors. And again 8 of them said that they would read a new women’s magazine which focuses on international beauty and that is amazing for me since I am creating a new fashion magazine for women and my double sheet spread focuses on a variety of fashion whether it’s western, ethnic and carnival.
The women also said that they mainly read monthly magazines (about 6 people said that), then one person said they read it weekly, one said daily and one said rarely, therefore I decided to make my magazine a monthly magazine and that’s why I just wrote February 2017 below my masthead on the front cover.
I also wanted to know if the reader likes to see picture based content or text based content on the magazine and more than half said picture based, so there are not many texts on my magazine except the double sheet spread. Then I wanted to know what colors to use so I asked them “do you like to see colorful texts or simple and elegant ones” and 100% of them picked simple and elegant and that is because of their age group. If I asked children the same question, they would most likely want to see bright and colorful texts all over the magazine, but I asked adults who want it to be mature and informative. Finally, I wanted to know what factors made them decide to buy a magazine and mostly they said because of the front cover, therefore I want my cover to be the most appealing and eye catching out of all.
